The Philadelphia Land Bank has the potential to be a valuable new tool for community garden preservation at a time when booming development continues to threaten green and garden spaces in neighborhoods. And the city’s growth has thrived with the explosion of pop up gardens, which, by creating urban oases throughout the city, have become an indelible piece of Philadelphia in the summertime. Amy Laura Cahn of the Public Interest Law Center, Jeff Barg of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society and Scott Quitel of the LandHealth Institute will discuss how, in gardens that have been around for decades or for just a couple of months, Philadelphia is leading the way in making the most of its green space and what steps we need to take moving forward.
