5:30 PM - 7:00 PM

Where

The Village of Industry & Art - 320 S. Broad Street, Philadelphia PA

What

Join Design Advocacy Group (DAG) for a presentation on the history, sculpture, and restoration of Philadelphia City Hall, one of the city’s most iconic architectural landmarks. Greta Greenberger, who led City Hall tours for more than two decades, and Nan Gutterman, FAIA, FAPT, Director of Historic Preservation at VITETTA, a DRG Architects company, will share insights from their decades of experience with this extraordinary French Second Empire building.

From its early years of occupancy in the 1880s to its official completion in 1901, City Hall has evolved amid ongoing construction and repeated threats of demolition. The presentation will highlight major exterior conservation efforts, beginning with tower repairs and the conservation of William Penn in the late 1980s, followed by the extensive exterior envelope project completed in 2015 with the installation of McArthur’s monumental gates. The program will also offer a glimpse into City Hall’s monumental interior spaces.
