How the City of Philadelphia Is Planning to Cut Carbon Pollution

Mayor Kenney has set a target of cutting the carbon pollution causing climate change at least 80 percent by 2050 across Philadelphia. To understand how city government, large businesses and institutions, community groups, and residents can work together to achieve this goal, the Office of Sustainability released a pair of reports in 2017 and 2018: the Municipal Energy Master Plan (covering city government) and the citywide Powering Our Future: A Clean Energy Vision for Philadelphia. Rich Freeh from the Office of Sustainability will present a summary of these plans and updates on citywide progress toward cutting carbon pollution.

Rich Freeh
Rich Freeh is the Senior Program Manager for the Office of Sustainability in the City of Philadelphia. In this capacity, he is responsible for coordinating Philadelphia’s efforts to reduce the city’s carbon footprint by improving the efficiency of its homes and businesses, promoting renewable energy, and encouraging low-carbon transportation options. He also co-authors the city's Greenworks sustainability plan updates and supports climate adaptation planning efforts. Prior to taking on this role, Rich administered the city's energy benchmarking program for commercial buildings.
Before working for the City, Rich worked in the public policy consulting and publishing sectors. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh and a Master’s in City Planning from the University of Pennsylvania.
