At DAG’s January meeting, students from the Graduate Program in Historic Preservation at PennDesign will discuss the results of their fall semester studio focusing on the lower north Philadelphia neighborhood of Sharswood, the object of proposed, large-scale redevelopment. The students, listed below and under the supervision of faculty member Fon S. Wang, director of historic preservation at Ballinger, created a conservation plan for the purpose of guiding development while retaining historic, cultural, and living resources. The 15-week course included community outreach, city planning, economic analysis, art, archival research, policy suggestions, architecture, and preservation, with the hope of empowering the community and guiding change over time. Join us and these PennDesign graduate students in historic preservation, city planning and architecture: Audrey Von Ahrens (MSHP/MCP); Andrew Cushing (MSHP); Preston Hull (MSHP); Amy Lambert, RA (MSHP); Sonja Lengel (MSHP); Sanjana Muthe (MSHP); Jessica Neubelt (MSHP/MCP); Dana J. Rice (MSHP/MArch); Maya Thomas (MSHP). PLEASE NOTE: This first meeting of 2016 is not on our usual first Thursday of the month; it will be held Thursday, January 14 instead. And many thanks to Ballinger for graciously offering DAG meeting space in January through April, while the Center for Architecture is under renovation. Be sure to bring photo ID to ender the building.
